Watch out for Hull City…

Well now, today sees Shota Arveladze take his first game in charge of the Tigers, being appointed by new owner Acun Ilicali, on Thursday.

This was possibly the worst kept secret in the whole of Hull, and yet there’s ‘media’ experts who were still surprised by the decision, probably based on the fact that under Grant McCann, the team had beaten two of the top three teams, in consecutive games.

However, looking at results, those were the first victories by the team since November, a 2-1 win at home to Millwall.

The only issue is the timing. If McCann had been replaced at the same time of Ilicali’s purchase confirmation, no one would’ve batted an eyelid.

Obviously Ilicali looked at McCann and his assessment would probably have come down to one question…

“Does this man have the ability to take this club where I would like it to go?”

If that was indeed the case, then it’s no surprise that McCann was replaced, he not looking like he can raise the Tigers in the Championship, like he did in League 1.

There’s no shame in that. Some managers look better in one league than another. City legend Steve Bruce was always seen as a better manager in the Championship than the Premier League, McCann looking a better boss in League 1.

The two recent victories, plus the sympathy card, will surely see McCann get another job fairly soon. He just needs to become a little more flexible tactically, his downfall on many occasions at The MKM Stadium in recent months.
